Taylor Swift was portrayed in the media as a serial dater by 2014. According to the media, Taylor wrote and performed songs of retaliation against her boyfriends. Her romantic life appeared to be a public scorecard as a result. Instead of denying it, Taylor fully committed to "Blank Space," becoming exactly what the media had described her as. "I got a blank space, baby, and I'll write your name" is not a song about love. Rather, she's being funny and acting like the crazy, dramatic ex they claimed she was. It harshly and performatively mocks her. Here, Taylor is strong and playful rather than weak. She challenges the audience and media to participate and watch what transpires. By writing her own story while laughing, Taylor is mocking them.
